It was a chance meeting during an annual cross-Ireland, Dublin to Galway charity ride-out that brought Pat McCabe together with Mike Carty of Blood Bikes West. The discussion about what the various Blood Bikes organisations in the UK and Ireland were doing and achieving inspired Pat to look into the situation in the East. To his astonishment, no equivalent organisation existed to serve the Hospitals and people in the east (Ireland’s most populated region). So, with the support and help of a number of key people, Pat began the process of creating Blood Bikes East.

BBE was officially launched in April of 2012 with an event hosted by the then Lord Mayor of Dublin (Naoise Ó Muirí).
